Rare Pandas Caught on Film in China
Check out the amazing video below of two rare pandas that was taken by camera traps in Western China. These two cuddly characters were caught in the desolate landscapes of the Sichuan Province, along with red pandas, golden pheasants and a leopard. They obviously knew the best place to put the camera then!
This Province of China features an amazing selection of wildlife in the area, with an astounding 10% of the world’s total of species in this area alone! Home to the rare Red Panda, Sichuan also houses some of the world’s other rarest animals, such as the Amur tiger, the musk deer, and even the Yangtze finless porpoise.
WWF Head of Programmes for China and India, John Barker, said –
China’s growing economy is leading to more roads, more railways, and more dams – and this ultimately means more impact on wildlife habitats. Maintaining the integrity and connections between these habitats and landscapes is vital if we are to retain ecologically rich places with diverse wildlife, like that of Sichuan in China.

Camera traps are a great way to learn about the biodiversity of an area without having to encroach on the animals area. By setting the cameras, it’s much easier to see animals at their most natural, as many can sense when a human is nearby, and this can usually signal danger. This type of visual research allows environmental specialists to learn better ways to manage these important habitats, and how to make them thrive to ensure the the future of some of the world’s most endangered species.
