The Prince of Wales Announces Launch of WWF Green Ambassador Awards
Prince Charles has announced the launch of the WWF’s first Green Ambassador Awards. The awards are designed to reward schools and young people that have really made a difference to the environment. The first set of awards will be handed out at a ceremony next summer and schools have been invited to put forward their best candidates to receive the awards.
The Prince of Wales has been a long time advocate of the Green Ambassador scheme organized by the WWF and has high hopes the awards will result in more young people building a deeper connection with nature, and increase their knowledge of environmental issues.
Prince Charles said he thinks the awards will ‘shine a light on a new generation of sustainability champions’.
“We’re really excited to announce the Green Ambassador Awards. We hope these awards will both inspire these youngsters to continue their amazing work, and motivate others to have a go at helping the environment.” WWF’s Colin Butfield said.
The launch of the awards coincides with the commencement of a new partnership between the WWF and Alpro who is sponsoring the Green Ambassadors programme.
Bernard Derycere said the company was very happy to be supporting the WWF and is working very closely with the organisation to promote a deeper understanding of environmental issues particularly those related to what we eat. He added that sustainability has been at the centre of the company’s business having pioneered plant based eating for over three decades
There are prizes valued up to £2,500 in three categories including pupil, teacher and school awards.
The awards seek to recognize those schools that have played an active role in the environment.
