Turtle Facts
- Turtles are reptiles and like all reptiles this means the turtle is cold blooded.
- The hard shell that protects the turtle like a shield is known as a carapace.
- In some species of turtle, the egg temperature determines the sex of the offspring. Lower temperatures produce male turtles, whilst higher temperatures produce females.
- Only one in one thousand baby sea turtles survive into adulthood because they are a source of food for other marine animals and birds.
- Turtles have been present on Earth for over 200 million years!
